There is no evidence of harm from hormones in dairy.
Nitrates are only in processed meats, not ordinary steaks and burgers.
Pesticides are removed by washing.
Most fish does NOT contain harmful levels of mercury, and it's easy enough to limit intake of the high-risk fish.
Breastfeeding avoids BPAs in bottles and melamine in formula.

It is not possible to avoid every risk in life. Of course it makes sense to avoid/minimize those risks that we reasonably can ... but at some point we have to emerge from our plastic bubbles, unwind the cotton wool wrappings, and get on with our lives.
References :
I believe things are better than they were 20 years ago. We are more aware of harmful additives & have choices if we don't like what we see (eating organic rather than mass produced). I do think the media scares many people beyond rational thinking; but for most people it helps them to be well informed.

I think what you are doing is great; don't be one of those people that go over the top with worry and cause other problems for your daughter. Relax, enjoy her and trust God to help you make the right decisions.
References :
Actually, our livers and kidneys really do an amazing job of filtering toxins out of our bodies throughout our lifetime. So, most of those things do not worry me.

I do agree with you about the growth hormones, though. I only buy hormone free dairy, and limit the red meat in our house.
References :
Is it possible to keep our kids healthy?
Growth hormones in dairy.
Nitrates in meat.
Pesticides on fruits and veggies.
Mercury in fish...and now in our "green" lightbulbs.
BPA's in bottles and cups.
Phtalates in lotions.
Lead on their toys.
Melamine in formula.

Poisons seem to be everywhere. Its in the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the toys we play with.
Does anyone else here ever get overwhelmed with worry about how to keep your kids safe from these things? Is there really any way to protect our kids?
I try to buy organic, wash her clothes before she wears them, buy BPA free, but is it enough?
It seems like everyday I read something about a new harmful chemical I need to worry about. Is he media helping us by letting know about these things, or are they making us worry for no reason? What other things can I do to protect my little girl?
